I hope the new school year has gotten off to a good start for everybody.
The amount of information at the beginning of the year, is a lot, not only from me and OSA, but from your schools and other activities. So I will keep this September blog as concise as possible.
The Welcome Play-In is this Thursday, Sept. 12th, 2024,
Everyone is invited, including beginners who don’t play yet! You will have a chance to meet your group class teachers and the other students who might be in your group classes. Treats afterward.
Location: QEPCCC at 2302 Bridge Rd, Oakville. In the Rehearsal Hall (ask at front desk if you don’t know where the Rehearsal Hall is)
Time:
5:00 pm setup/tune up
5:30 pm Play-In Start
6:10 pm Refreshments
Regular group classes and Kodaly/Theory begin on Sept. 19th, 2024.
Registration
As most of you know, basic membership with OSA is necessary for all students, even if not in group. This gives you access to participation in all concerts and recitals as well as allows us teaching space at Jean Grieve’s and insurance coverage. Please register with OSA as soon as possible, if you haven’t already.
Parents As Partners
We are excited to be able to offer this, this year. Compulsory for all parents of Bk. 1-3 students. Next year, there will be a session for parents of teens and more advanced students. The first session is Sept. 21st, 2024. Register now if you have not already done so. It is free for OSA members and is likely the most important event of the year.

Housekeeping:
We are lucky to be able to use Ms. Grieve’s basement for lessons. As some of you know, renting lesson space from QEP costs a lot more. Please try to follow these guidelines so that she allows us to continue using her space:
park in her driveway whenever possible (avoid parking on Hixon if you can, per the neighbour’s request)
in rainy, muddy or winter weather, leave your shoes near the door
Washroom - turn off light when you’re done
Speak quietly when entering or exiting (Ms. Jean is often teaching her own students upstairs)
